Scholarships for Indian Students for study abroad is one of the most important topics of discussion. As per the Ministry of External Affairs’ January 1’2025’s Annexure-I, approximately 18L+ Indian Students have chosen to study abroad, across various countries like the UK, Australia, Ireland, Europe, New Zealand, US & Canada.
> Need for Scholarships
There is a recurrent question that keeps on popping up in the heads of students, that what is the need for scholarships. Well, studying abroad is definitely an expensive affair other than being one of the best decisions a student can take. Studying abroad can easily cost between 15L to 20L in tuition fee and if we add to it the costs of rent, living, food and health insurance, it can easily reach a cost difficult for many.
Scholarships not only help students build a strong foundation financially but also help them gain an academic validation as recruiters, companies and universities often associate high scholarships with high academic and overall credibility.

- Government Scholarships : These are the ones that are provided by the central or state governments. Examples in India include schemes by the Ministry of Education.
- Private/Corporate Scholarships : These are the ones which are funded by private organizations, NGOs, or foundations. Examples include Tata Trusts scholarships
- Sports Scholarships : This is offered to students who excel in sports and sports activities. These scholarships are usually awarded by colleges and universities and can cover tuition fees and certain other expenses
- International Scholarships : Scholarships like the Fulbright Program come under this category. They usually cover tuition, travel, and living expenses.
- Subject-Specific Scholarships : These are particularly for students pursuing a particular field (engineering, medicine, arts, etc.).
