Living Expenses in New Zealand
Budget separately for accommodation, food, transportation, utilities, health insurance and personal expenses.
Current immigration financial requirement: Immigration New Zealand currently requires tertiary students studying for one year or longer to demonstrate at least NZD 20,000 per year for living expenses. For courses shorter than a year, the requirement is NZD 1,667 per month.
This is an immigration financial-evidence requirement, not a guarantee that NZD 20,000 will cover everyone’s actual annual expenses. Spending depends on location, accommodation and lifestyle.
