DIFFERENCE AND SIMILARITIES BETWEEN IELTS AND PTE
CONFUSED WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE?
IELTS and PTE are both same and different depending on varied aspects. Both are popular exams for testing the proficiency in English. IELTS is quite old (1989), while PTE is relatively new (2009). As we plan to migrate to our desired foreign university, we discover that we need to go through English proficiency test and qualifying the English Language Proficiency tests becomes essential to get accepted. But what confuses us is which test to choose.
IOA Global can help you clear your dilemma and give you clear differences and similarities between IELTS and PTE exams. The main similarity between them is that both tests have comparable substance and formation that is based on speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
But the IELTS test involves face to face communication with an examiner, but the PTE test is totally computer-based assessment where the computer program evaluates the capabilities of the candidate. IELTS has two versions: Academic and General Training version. The test frequency in academic is 4 times a month, and for general training, it’s twice a month. The test frequency of PTE is 363 days per year.
Parameters for the writing and speaking section of the IELTS are very well defined. The PTE is much precise in the writing section, but there may be instances where IELTS has been more accurate in the speaking section. Although many test-takers have been able to get good speaking scores with PTE coaching, there are a few who might be scoring better through IELTS coaching. IELTS, on the other hand, can have issues with the writing section as it is assessed by a human which may leave a scope for a slip-up.
PTE coaching centers can provide a mock test that helps you realize your readiness to take the real exam and preparation. IELTS coaching centers, on the other hand, cannot conduct an official mock test, though unofficial mock tests also help. To know your band, you need to book an exam. The PTE gets an edge due to official scored mock test compared to IELTS.
The exam of IELTS goes on for 2 hours 45 minutes, where the speaking section may not be in a single day, and PTE takes 3 hours in a single day. The validity of the result of both PTE and IELTS is 2 years. Various Countries and universities accept IELTS score, and PTE score is accepted by Australia for immigration, and for academic purposes in European, Ireland and USA universities. The band score in IELTS ranges from 0-9 and the Score in PTE ranges from 10-90 points. There may be cases you need to postpone or cancel your test; in that case, PTE serves better. Though both allow you to do this for a fee, you can reschedule your exam in PTE, but not so easily in case of IELTS.
